How to Light the Fireworks With a Fiesta Firework

Fireworks Fiesta is a cake firework -- a large, box-shaped firework made up of many shells connected by a high-speed fuse. Such fireworks can be extremely dangerous if you don't follow certain safety precautions when lighting them. However, the steps for lighting Fireworks Fiesta safely are easy to follow.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the Fireworks Fiesta on a hard, flat, secure surface such as a paved driveway or concrete patio. If you don't have access to such a surface, set the cake firework on a stable piece of plywood on your lawn. Make sure the area surrounding the firework is free of paper debris and dried plant material such as leaves, as these are flammable.

    • 2

Make sure the area above the Fireworks Fiesta is clear. Cake fireworks emit sparks and flames that shoot skyward, so never light them indoors or under an enclosed or sheltered area.

    • 3

Tell spectators to stand back at least 10 feet from the firework to ensure their safety.

    • 4

Locate the fuse on the side of the cake firework.

    • 5

Light the fuse. Ideally, you would use a punk, a flare or an extended butane lighting device to light the Fireworks Fiesta. These items allow more room between you and the firework. However, if you don't have access to one of these items, a match or a lighter should suffice. Only light the end of the fuse, not the middle.

    • 6

Step away from the firework quickly. Turn around to face the opposite direction and move at least 10 feet away from where the firework sits. When you are a safe distance away, turn back around to enjoy the aerial display.
