1
Remove the lid from the urn and then the basket insert. Close the spigot at the front of the urn as well.
-
2
Fill the urn with fresh, cold water; up to the line for 12 cups of coffee if you just want a single pot of coffee. If you are making more, fill it up to the 24-cup line. If you're entertaining a large group of people, you can fill the urn to make as many as 50 cups of coffee, depending on the model.
-
3
Insert the basket back into the top of the urn. Lock it into the tube that is situated off to the side pointing upward, inside the urn. It will be visible at the surface, directly where you sit the basket.
-
4
Insert a coffee filter into the urn basket. Large coffee filters that fit these devices are found in coffee sections of most grocery stores. Choose an appropriate-size filter for your Farberware urn model, as sizes do vary. For instance, a large 50-cup urn needs a filter of about 8 inches in diameter. Knowing the diameter of the basket of your Farberware urn helps you pick the appropriate filter for your use. Fill the urn with the needed amount of coffee grounds.
-
5
Snap the lid into place on the urn. Plug the coffee urn into a nearby outlet. Press the power switch on, which is located on the front above the spigot, or on the side of the device, depending on the model you are using. This allows the coffee to brew, which takes anywhere from five to 10 minutes, depending on how many cups you are brewing. The Farberware coffee urn will switch off after about 30 minutes, but the urn will keep the coffee hot for several hours.
