What Is a Portable Fire Pump?
-
Function
-
The portable fire pump is a pumping system meant to be carried by one person to a remote fire. The pump can move water from a reservoir and through the pump to produce a fire-fighting stream.
Features
-
The water pressure produced is substantial, at about 80 psi, or pounds per square inch, or even higher. Not only is the pressure great, but the amount of water --- typically 1 gallon per second --- is ample enough to put out a significant fire.
Considerations
-
Larger pumps are available, but the portability is compromised as the pump grows in size. A typical portable fire pump has adequate fuel times of about 45 minutes before more fuel is needed.
