How to Stay Warm in Afghanistan
One of the challenges of working in Afghanistan is the extremely low temperatures in that area, especially at any season other than the summer, particularly at night and in the mountains. The issue of how to keep warm is one faced by military personnel, civilian contractors, and residents of this nation. You can keep warm by insulating yourself with both conventional and non-conventional materials. Some creativity and some caution are necessary to carry this out successfully.Things You'll Need

1
Insulate yourself with conventional materials at hand. Stuff the materials under your shirt, or down pants legs. These materials may include paper of any sort, such as newspaper or office paper. Packing materials, such as foam "peanuts" or confetti, make good insulation.
-
2
Insulate yourself with non-conventional materials at hand, such as agricultural or farm-related materials. Hay, straw, feathers and sheep shearing scraps make fine insulators.
-
3
Cover the main areas through which body heat leaves the body: the head, feet, and hands. Even a light covering, or several light coverings in layers, can make a difference. Be sure to use insulation around any openings, for example, holes in worn shoes, or rips in shirts or trousers. If possible, mend rips in clothing.
