Pocket knives are used in the great outdoors. Activities such as camping, fishing and hunting require the use of a pocket knife. Pocket knives date back to the first century AD. Romans used what than were known as folding knives. In 2010 pocket knives are carried by outdoorsmen and city folk alike as they have modernized into more than just a knife but a multi-use pocket tool.-

Caring for a pocket knife may seem simple and not very risky; however, accidents can happen. To prevent accidents when cleaning your pocket knife, ensure you wipe from the bottom to the tip of the blade. Also, ensure that the blade is not facing the body. Use a thick cloth to avoid cuts and scratches in case of an accidental graze of the blade.

Using a pocket knife safely is mostly common sense. Remember to always cut away from the body. Also, make sure the area in which you are cutting is free from distraction and other people who may accidentally get cut or cause you to lose focus on the cut. When you are done using your knife gently fold or replace back in its place.
General Safety

General safety precautions should be taken when using pocket knives or sharp objects in general. For instance, if your knife falls do not try to catch it' step away until it is out of motion. Never toss, throw, or catch a knife. Finally, if you must sharpen the blade, do so only on a whetstone at a 30 degree angle.
