Five Common Hazard Warnings

Dangers exist almost everywhere you work, travel, shop or play. You need to be aware of certain conditions to stay safe. Hazard signs are posted to help you recognize a danger and urge you to be cautious. Recognizing and paying attention to these warnings can avert a catastrophe.
  1. Men Working

    • The men working sign is typically posted at construction sites.

You might find a men working sign anywhere workers come into contact with the public. These signs are typically posted along roads or highways under construction or at the site of building construction. This hazard warning sign should alert you that workers are nearby, so you can proceed with caution.

    No Signs

    • No smoking signs are visible in most buildings.

The no sign is a red circle with a diagonal line running across the interior of the circle. This hazard sign informs you that a specific material is prohibited. Most of these signs are found in a factory or the workplace where certain materials can cause a hazard or injury. For example, a no smoking sign is posted by every gas tank at a fuel station. Smoking while refueling can cause an explosion.

    Wet Floor

    • Wet floor signs urge you to tread carefully.

Every public building has a wet floor hazard sign somewhere in the facility. You see this sign in department stores, grocery stores or at the mall. This warning sign informs you that the floor in that area of the facility is wet and creates a slip hazard. Tread carefull when you see this sign.

    Highly Flammable

    • Higly flammable signs are posted near materials that can easily ignite.

Anywhere a fluid or gas can ignite has a highly flammable sign posted. This hazard warning informs you that chemicals, gas or fuel is being stored in that area. When you see this sign do not smoke or use any material that could cause a spark.

    High Voltage

    • High voltage signs tell you to stay away or risk electrocution.

Every electrical utility has high voltage signs posted throughout the facility. You might also find the sign around power generating stations and electrical substations in the countryside. This hazard warning sign, often posted on large fences, warns you to stay away or risk electrocution.
