How to File a Complaint About Rat Infestation

The age-old war between humans and rats shows no signs of abating. These menacing rodents are a public nuisance and health hazard and have been linked to many diseases and plagues through the centuries. Despite efforts to minimize the rodent population, effective controls rely on communication between the public and local health authorities. Filing a rat complaint with your local health agency is one way to help control rat infestations.

Instructions

  1. Contact Health Authorities

    • 1

Contact your city's call center about the problem. Many major cities have 311 call centers that can assist in filing the initial complaint or direct an individual to the appropriate public authorities.

    • 2

Report the problem to your local health department. Many of these departments have selected telephone numbers set up to handle rodent complaints and provide information regarding rodent control.

    • 3

Report the issue to your city's department of sanitation. Sanitation departments work in conjunction with other community-based departments to investigate vermin complaints.
