How to Add Tint to Glasses

Adding tint to glasses is a process that can often be used to turn functional eyeglasses into stylish accessories that cut down on the glare the sun can shine into your eyes. For many years, it was only possible to get your eyeglasses tinted by taking them to an eyeglass outlet, but this can get costly over time. Luckily, it is possible to tint your eyeglasses yourself, allowing you to cut costs.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill your thermal dye unit's dye well with the tinting solution of your choice. The dye well should be about three-quarters full.

    • 2

Turn the thermal dye unit on and let it heat up to the appropriate temperature. The owner's manual should tell you what the appropriate heating temperature should be.

    • 3

Remove the glass lenses carefully from your eyeglass frames. Make sure the lenses are free of dust and debris so nothing will be trapped between the glass and the tint.

    • 4

Place the lenses in the thermal dye unit's lens-holding attachment. Secure them firmly in place.

    • 5

Lower the lens-holding attachment to dip the lenses in the tinting solution. Let the lenses soak for anywhere between 10 and 30 minutes. The amount of time you will soak the lenses will depend on what color of tinting solution you are using.

    • 6

Raise the lens-holding attachment and allow the lenses to dry. When they have dried, remove them from the lens-holding attachment and put them back in your eyeglass frames.
