How to Check My Name in the National Donor Deferral Registry

The National Donor Deferral Registry (NDDR) is a database that stores the names and information of North American blood plasma donors that have been given a status of "permanently deferred" when it comes to plasma donation. The database is a self-regulation move made by the plasma collection industry to protect recipients of donated plasma from receiving plasma that is infected with Hepatitis B, C or HIV 1 or 2. The NDDR was established in 1993 and can be accessed online by all plasma donation facilities in North America. Fifth Dimension (5D) is the company which administers and maintains the NDDR.

  Note when and where you donated blood plasma. Consider whether you have received a positive diagnosis for Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HbsAg), the antibody to Hepatitis C (anti-HCV) or an antibody to Human Immunodeficiency Viruses 1 and 2 (anti-HIV 1/2).

  Call or visit the blood plasma donation center where you last donated blood plasma and tell them when you last donated plasma and which virus you have tested positive for. Ask to have the NDDR database checked to see if your name has been entered into the database.

  Contact the Fifth Dimension (5D) Customer Support Desk at 1-877-534-3578 or visit them online at www.5d.ca and ask for your name to be added to the database if you know that you have one of the viruses mentioned, or removed from the database if you believe your name has been errantly entered into the database. Get yourself tested for these viruses and provide evidence of that you are not a carrier for Hepatitis B, C or HIV 1 or 2 in order to have your name removed.

  Visit the NDDR database yourself at www.nddr.org, login and search for your name if you are authorized to access the database yourself.
