How to Mount a Sharps Container

Sharps containers are heavy-duty, plastic receptacles that are depositories for medical waste. The containers are made to withstand medical waste with points or edges -- such as used syringes, testing needles and other potentially dangerous items -- that could tear holes in regular garbage bags. While sharps containers can be placed on flat surfaces, they can also be mounted on the wall for ease of use and to free up space. All you need is a bracket, the appropriate anchors and a few screws, and you're ready to hang up your sharps container.

Instructions

Place the bracket against the wall. Sharps brackets vary in size and style, but they are universally held to the wall with fasteners. Hold the bracket against the wall so that it's level and at the height you want, which is enough for you to look into it and see how full the container will be.

Mark where the screw holes are in the bracket by putting your pencil tip through them and leaving a mark on the wall. Set the bracket aside and drill pilot holes. These holes should be smaller than the screw you'll be using, but will guide the screws in with your drill driver.

Place the bracket back against the wall and hold it so that all the pilot holes are right underneath the screw holes. Screw the bracket to the wall by putting the screws into the pilot holes. Once the bracket is in place, take your sharps container and place it in the bracket so that the container is held in place and supported.
