1
Study to become a phlebotomy technician. Seek training for certification at a vocational school, community college or nursing school. Phlebotomy technicians are employed in the laboratories of hospitals, clinics and other medical centers and work primarily with patients requiring venipuncture services.
-
2
Take a class for health professionals if you are already a health professional and want to add this skill to your repertoire. Become certified by attending training at a vocational school, nursing college or non-profit medical association like the National Phlebotomy Association (NPA), that offers both classroom and online instruction and certification in venipuncture.
-
3
Learn independently if you need to give shots or draw blood at home or in informal settings. Study venipuncture online, from a book, DVD or other multimedia. Take the NPA's online exam to ensure you are prepared with adequate knowledge to perform venipuncture procedures.
