How to Waterproof an Ankle
If you have injured your ankle and require a cast or stitches, you may not be able to get this portion of your body wet. While in theory, this doesn't seem like a difficult task, once it comes time to bathe, you may find yourself at a loss when trying to waterproof your ankle. Waterproofing your ankle is done by securing the area with an air-tight seam so water is unable to penetrate to your skin or the cast.Things You'll Need

Plastic Bandage Protector
-
1
Place your ankle into a plastic bandage protector. Purchase at most drugstores or through online medical supply companies.
-
2
Secure the waterproof strap located around the entrance area of the plastic bag. Pull the strap tightly to ensure no water is able to seep into the bag. You may then shower, swim or take a bath as you please.
-
3
Carefully loosen the strap on the plastic bandage protector and slowly remove your foot. Dry off the plastic bag before doing so to prevent water from dripping onto your ankle.
Clear Plastic Wrap
-
4
Wrap the ankle with clingy clear plastic wrap. Make sure you apply pressure to the plastic wrap while encasing your ankle to ensure a snug fit. This method works if you are unable to locate a plastic bandage protector or if on a budget.
-
5
Secure the plastic wrap around your ankle. Wrap electrical tape completely around the top and lower portions of the plastic wrap. Attach the tape tightly. Be careful not to let the tape come in contact with your skin as it may be difficult and slightly painful to pull it off.
-
6
Remove the electrical tape and plastic wrap. Place your fingers underneath the plastic wrap and gently pull the wrap off your foot. If you are unable to do so due to an injury, place your finger underneath the plastic wrap and carefully use a pair of scissors to cut the electrical tape.
