How to Check Industrial Water Valves
Industrial water valves must be in proper working order at all times. A failed valve can present a safety risk, if the water is supplied to homes and businesses. Valves operate under pressure and must be properly maintained. Regular inspections of industrial water valves can help to reduce leaks and prevent contamination of a water supply. Standard leak testing procedures are usually established by the municipality or government agency that maintains the water supply system. Industrial inspectors use a checklist and experience.Things You'll Need

1
Operate all of the valves, by turning the valve open and then closed, and then open again. Note any valve that does not open and close properly. Grease the stems on valves that are difficult to open or close.
-
2
Inspect each valve visually to ensure correct positioning of the valve. Note bent or warped valve stems, and write down the findings on an inspection checklist. Visually inspect each valve for obvious leaks and schedule repairs or replacement.
-
3
Clean the outside of the valve rods with a clean cloth. Apply a thin coat of oil to the rod. Adjust any loose linkages in the valves, to tighten them according to the manufacturer's specifications.
-
4
Examine the gaskets for wear, cracking, brittle appearance or mineral buildup, that may indicate a water leak. Make sure that the valve is open and the water pressure is at the required levels. Check gaskets for leaks.
-
5
Test the alarm system on all pumps and valves by initiating a test at the alarm control panel. Verify that the alarm sound and panel lights are in proper working order.
