How to Clean Your Office Using White Vinegar

Even the most fastidious individual can get so buried at the office that the idea of cleaning goes right out the streak-covered window. Lack of cleaning beyond the daily removal of trash often allows germs to multiply, especially in a high-traffic office during cold and flu season. According to an article posted on Vinegar Tips, the acidity in white vinegar makes it effective at killing mold, bacteria, and germs. White vinegar provides a safe, cheap, and easy way to kill germs in your office and keep your workspace sparkling clean.

Instructions

Clean electronics with a rag dampened with equal parts vinegar and water. Make sure all electronics are turned off before you begin. According to Sabrina Rocca in an article on cleaning with vinegar, liquid should never get into electronics; avoid using spray bottles. Also wipe down community devices such as photocopiers and phones to help stop the spread of germs.

Abolish dirt, pollen, and pollutants that have blown in through open windows and collected on miniblinds. Put an old sock or glove on your hand, douse it with a mix of equal parts vinegar and water, and then wipe the blinds. You might also want to keep a container of fresh water handy to repeatedly rinse the sock or glove, if your miniblinds have not been washed in some time.

Remove the grime from windows and simultaneously reuse old newspapers by spritzing your windows directly with a spray bottle containing water and vinegar, and then wiping the glass clean with newspapers.

    • 4

Eliminate dust from ceiling fan blades, heating and air conditioning grills, and exhaust fan grills. Kathryn Weber asserts for BellaOnline that dust is a mixture of dirt, bacteria, molds, dust mites and their excrement, and, primarily, skin flakes shed by humans. Again, use an old sock or glove doused in vinegar and water to remove dust and the pollutants it contains.

Remove lime deposits from your coffee maker. When your office coffee maker is slow to brew a fresh pot, pour equal amounts of vinegar and water into the reservoir. Turn the coffee maker on to brew, using a filter to catch large mineral deposits. Follow with two or three cycles of clean water to flush out any remaining trace of vinegar.

Deodorize and remove food particles from the microwave. Boil a mixture of 1/4 cup white vinegar and 1 cup water for 5 minutes; the steam will remove odors and soften dried-on food particles. Once the vinegar mixture has cooled, use a sponge and the remaining vinegar and water mixture to wipe down the rest of the microwave.

Sanitize the bathroom. Remove mildew by scrubbing with vinegar that has not been diluted with water. Pour 2 cups of vinegar into a toilet bowl and let it soak overnight to remove stains and help kill germs.
