How to Change Parking Lot Lights
Parking lot lights are a safety requirement that every business should make sure to maintain. As with any other light source, sooner or later the bulbs burn out. Fortunately, if you have a ladder or a lift of the right size, all you need to do is get up to the light, remove the bulbs and change them out with new ones. You might need a screwdriver to access the bulbs, but that depends on the type of light you have.Things You'll Need
- Screwdriver
- New light bulb
- Ladder/scissor lift

1
Turn off the power to the parking lot light that you're going to change. It's very important that you never attempt to change a light or do any sort of electrical work on a light that has power running to it.
-
2
Set up your ladder or scissor lift. You need to be able to safely reach the light in order to change it, and if you can't reach the light without doing something dangerous, then don't proceed until you have a higher ladder.

3
Remove any exterior cover on the parking lot light. Many lights may have a metal cage or other protective device to keep the light safe from thrown objects of blown debris. These cages should be held on with screws that you can easily remove with a screwdriver of the appropriate type. After unscrewing the cage, set it aside along with the screws.

Remove the light and examine it. If the light is blown or burnt out, then simply replace the light. Once you have screwed in the new light, replace the cage, climb down the ladder and turn on the power to see if the new light works.
