How to Stop the Bird Flu

Bird flu, or avian flu, is a strain of influenza that can be transmitted to humans via chickens. While there isn't a cure right now, and there are still occasional outbreaks of the avian flu, it can be stopped. The steps for stopping the bird flu, or minimizing its impact, are similar to steps you would take with regular influenza or other communicable diseases.

Clean surfaces before you handle them, and wipe down surfaces in your home regularly. Use hydrogen peroxide, bleach, UV rays or cleaning alcohol to kill many of the avian flu germs before you come into contact with them. Wipe down door handles, telephones, bus rails, etc., if you're concerned about exposure.

Eat healthy foods and take in plenty of nutrients. Garlic, vitamin C, vitamin E, green tea, coconut oil and kimchi are all items that have shown the potential to stave off and to help cure avian flu.

    • 3

Take medication to fight off the avian flu if you do get it. Tamiflu and Relenza are antiviral drugs that are used to combat regular flu, but they've been shown to be effective against avian flu as well. Stay as isolated as possible from other people to stop the spread of the infection.
