How to Measure Water Level
Determining the water level in a well or other containment unit that it not readily visible can be tricky, as you will not be able to eyeball the depth of the water. Obtaining an accurate measurement in these circumstances requires the use of an electric sounder, a device which acts to specifically indicate the moment it encounters water. The sounder uses a weight on insulated wire. When it comes into contact with the water, electric current flows through the circuit providing a reading.Things You'll Need
- Electronic sounder

1
Flip the "On" switch or button to enable your electric sounder.
-
2
Slowly lower the insulated wire into the well or other containment unit until it comes into contact with the surface of the water. Move with care lest you accidentally dip the sounder too low and corrupt your reading.
-
3
Look at the insulated line the moment the needle on the sounder moves. Read the depth marking on the line to obtain the water level.
-
4
Repeat the process to double check and confirm the reading.
