How to Use Emergency Closing Numbers

Emergency closing numbers are phone numbers that are specifically set for use when there is inclement weather or some variety of danger that would result in a business or organization closing down. Snow that closes schools or government buildings is a good example of an emergency closing. If you have the number then you can find out whether or not your school or workplace should be open during what might qualify as an emergency situation.

Find the emergency closing number for the organization that you want to know about. For instance, if you want to know about closing at the Department of Motor Vehicles you're going to need a different number than for your local high school. Contact the organization before there's an emergency situation and ask for the emergency closing number that you can call.

Call the emergency closing number when you see inclement weather or there's an alert put out by the government to see if there will be an emergency closing. If there is a closing then you know that the building or center is closed for the day.

Check back with the emergency closing number at regular intervals before leaving your house. Just because your school wasn't closed at six in the morning doesn't mean that it won't be closed by eight o'clock. Make sure that where you're going isn't closed once more just before you leave the safety of your house.
