How to Disinfect a Hearing Aid Earpiece
Depending on the style, hearing aid earpieces can contain sensitive circuitry that prohibits dunking the piece in alcohol or washing it with soap and water. Nevertheless, earpieces still need occasional cleaning and disinfecting, especially if they've fallen on the ground or if a curious child or pet has gotten a hold of them. Even if you take every precaution necessary, you'll need to disinfect the earpiece as a matter of regular maintenance.Things You'll Need
- Tissues or lint-free, soft cloth
- Hearing aid cleaning brush or pick
- Non-alcohol disinfectant wipes
Instructions

1
Wipe down the hearing aid with a clean, dry tissue or cloth.
-
2
Inspect the earpiece for earwax. You should have been given a small pick or brush for cleaning out debris such as wax. Gently pick out or brush away any you find. Your audiologist should have shown you how to do this so that you don't damage the hearing aid.
-
3
Wipe the hearing aid with a disinfectant towelette. Do not use an alcohol wipe -- use non-alcohol products only. If you are unsure whether a product is appropriate, contact your audiologist.
