Jcaho Safety Committee Requirements
The Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Hospitals (CAMH) is published by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). The manual includes recommendations on how to better manage the care environment. A special safety committee is appointed to develop and implement these recommendations.-
Recommendation Development and Approval
-
Only qualified individuals should oversee development and safety management as a whole. Hospitals will often designate someone as safety officer. The committee must create and approve the process by which to monitor performance.
Safety Issue Analysis
-
The safety committee must decide who conducts the evaluation and how the findings are reported. The results can then used to modify the system accordingly.
Communication of Safety Issues
-
Not only is the safety committee responsible for making hospital administration aware of any safety issues, but it also keeps abreast any individuals in charge of performance-improvement procedures and, when necessary, the hospital-wide patient safety program.
Mention of Recommendations
-
The Safety Committee is also responsible for communicating its recommendations for one or more procedures in performance improvement to hospital administration at least once each year.
