Computer-Based Safety Training
The United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires employers to keep work environments free from hazards (Reference 1). An effective way to ensure the safety and wellness of employees is to provide safety training. Offering computer-based safety-training modules makes it convenient for employees to learn about safety basics from their desks.-
Function
-
Computer-based safety-training modules are individual training sessions that allow employees to move through training at their own pace. Employees participate in the training by reading the information that appears on their computer screens and navigating through the training program as instructed. Safety-training modules occasionally include quizzes at the end to test how much information the employee retained.
Features
-
Computer-based safety training educates employees about their organization's safety initiatives, policies and procedures. Information is broken down to provide an overview on the most essential safety hazards that pertain to their places of work. Safety-training modules cover information about fire safety, evacuation procedures, equipment safety, workplace security, bloodborne pathogen risks and chemical safety.
Effects
-
By participating in computer-based safety training, employees learn how to recognize safety hazards in the workplace and take precautionary measures to stay as safe as possible. They also learn about their company's protocol for reporting safety hazards or incidents, which in turn leads to fewer preventable injuries.
