HIV and AIDS Training Programs

Given that 33.4 million people worldwide have HIV/AIDS, as well as vast challenges in the areas of education, prevention and treatment due to discrimination and the stigma attached to the disease, there is a great need for well-trained workers in HIV/AIDS-related treatment, care and research programs.
  1. Function

    • In terms of international HIV/AIDS work in the areas of treatment and prevention, the World Health Organization offers training in the areas of monitoring, evaluation and management of HIV/AIDS programs, as well as offering training for those volunteers in HIV/AIDS programs.

    Features

    • The Infectious Disease Society of America offers training for doctors and other health care professionals. This training focuses on making an alliance between African physicians and infectious disease experts from North America, with the goals of increasing education as well as research on HIV/AIDS in Africa.

    Considerations

    • In all areas of HIV/AIDS, the need for understanding of human rights is needed, given the stigma, prejudices and negative stereotypes often associated with the disease. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization offers training programs that specifically address international human rights for people with HIV/AIDS.
