How to Deal With Hazardous Human Waste

Hazardous human waste includes human waste materials from household wastes and hospital wastes. Examples of such are diapers, syringes, bodily fluids and other materials contaminated with bodily fluids. These wastes, when not properly disposed, can cause harm to humans. The proper disposal of these wastes will prevent the spread of illnesses and diseases that these materials bring.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved containers with which to dispose of hazardous human waste. Wear protective gloves before you touch any of the hazardous waste.

    • 2

Place the hazardous wastes into the EPA approved containers. EPA containers red, hard plastic containers with a screw on top that has a "closed" hole in the top to dispose of waste. They are marked with the biohazard sign and labeled with "Biohazard Infectious Wastes." It is easy to put things into the container, but due to the shape of the hole, difficult to get anything out. Never put anything inside the container if you have to force it. You could risk hurting yourself or others if the object protrudes from the container.

    • 3

Put larger waste items in a red plastic bag. You can dispose items like disposable diapers this way. Close the red bags using the special ties that comes with the waste bag. Seal the bags properly.

    • 4

Mark all disposal containers you use yourself with the universal biohazard symbol, and mark with the word "Biohazard" in big, bold letters. The containers should be sturdy and resistant to leaks.

    • 5

Look for the telephone number on the side of the plastic container for the place to call to dispose of the containers when they get full. You can deliver the hazardous waste to a specified waste disposal area of the EPA, or you can arrange to have the waste materials picked up.
