How to Wear a Facemask for Protection of the Flu
Influenza--a virus that attacks your respiratory system, resulting in coughing, congestion and more-- is contagious. It is spread through the air, through sneezing or coughing; by touching everyday objects, such as computers and cell phones; or by sharing a drink with someone who has the virus. During peak flu season or during a flu pandemic, protect yourself by wearing a face mask, especially when venturing out into a crowded area.Things You'll Need

1
Wash your hands with hand soap and warm water. It is important that your hands be germ-free when putting on your face mask.
-
2
Dry your hands with a clean towel.
-
3
Take the face mask out of its package and inspect it for tears or damage.
-
4
Identify the top of the mask. The top of the mask should have a stiff but pliable edge that will fit the shape of your nose.
-
5
Identify the front of the mask. Typically, the white side of the mask will touch your skin, while the colored side will face out.
-
6
Place the mask on your nose and tie the top set of strings around your head. If the mask has elastic bands, pull the top band up and over your head, allowing it to rest behind the crown of your head.
-
7
Tie the bottom set of strings around your head. If the mask has elastic bands, bring the bottom band up and over your head, allowing it to rest right above where your neck meets your head.
-
8
Ensure that the mask is covering your nose, mouth and chin by making adjustments as needed.
