Uses for an Analog Panel Meter
Analog panel meters are used to measure various variables in objects. Normally, a panel meter would consist of a dial, a needle, and a moving pointer. The panel meter can either be circular or square in shape. The analog panel meter would most probably look like a watch at first glance. Basically, there are two types of analog panel meters, the taut band panel meter and the pivot and jewel.-
Taut Band Panel and Digital Meters
-
While the taut band panel meter can withstand a lot of vibration and still provide accurate readings, the pivot and jewel panel meter will not be able to give as accurate readings as a taut band panel. However, both types are able to withstand high vibration levels.
While digital meters are quickly taking over analog panel meters, there are some processes that still require analog panel meters. They are still required when the user has to look at several meters to find out whether one particular meter is showing the correct calculations.
Temperature
-
The analog panel meter may be attached to a machine that is used to check the temperature of an object. Such meters are used in many industrial and mechanical processes. This use can normally be seen when any object is being filled with gas. An analog panel meter will indicate an increase in temperature in the object, which basically happens because the temperature of the gas is getting into the object. Therefore, an analog panel meter is helpful in such circumstances.
Speed
-
The analog panel meter can also be used to measure the speed of a moving object. The analog panel meters are therefore seen in bikes and cars. With the advent of the digital panel meters, the analog panel meters have taken a backseat and can be seen only in older bikes and cars.
Voltage
-
The analog panel meter can be used to measure the voltage that is passing through a particular object. These panel meters are normally seen in inverters and USPs (universal serial ports). The analog panel meter in a USP gives an indication of the amount of voltage that is passing through the inverter or USP into the computer. Some analog panel meters will also have a red marking on their dial, which indicates that something is amiss.
