MRI Compatible Lights

Magnetic resonance imaging or MRI is a medical procedure that is used to determine the complexity and extent of injuries in the human body. In hospitals, it is conducted by scanning the patients in the area of the injury. The MRI machine, works by creating a detailed image of the parts of the body by using a magnetic field and radio waves. A doctor generally suggests that patients who come in with acute back pains or sprained ankles go in for a MRI scan.
  1. MRI Compatible Lights

    • MRI machine works by creating a strong magnetic field while passing electric current through its wires loops, while there is an exchange of radio waves. In this process protons in the body are triggered and align themselves to absorb the radio waves and start spinning. This excitement of the molecules releases energy that is picked up by the coil and transferred to the computer. The computer then processes all the information and finally gives out a 3-D image of the affected area. All this functioning going on with the help of magnetism, it is mandatory that every other material in the room is nonmagnetic, even the lighting. When the light is nonmagnetic it does not hinder in the working of the MRI machine. Also, in a MRI suite, proper lighting is a must essential, just like any other medical operating or exam room, to increase the visibility of the operator and thus decreasing the possibility of any error. MRI safe lighting is enough bright to make the patient feel secure and comfortable.

    Variety

    • There are varieties of MRI safe lights that are designed to meet the customer's requirement. This can be placed on the ground, attached to the ceiling or even comes with wheels so that it can be moved easily from one place to another. The nonmagnetic lights are lightweight and come with brightness levels that can be adjusted. They also have rotators that can be turned around to point the light in the correct required direction and have affordable replacements bulbs as well.

    Requisites for MRI lighting

    • MRI safe lighting, being a specialized product, comes with many requisites. It must be lighted using DC (direct current) power. It has been observed that lights that use AC (alternating current) power can affect the quality of the image produced from a MRI machine and also affect its performance. Thus is it important that the MRI room has light fixtures that use DC power. In a MRI room it is essential to have a lighting that is noise free. This is why some MRI safe lights are equipped with isolation transformers that prevent high frequency noise interference with the MRI machine. MRI compatible lights also must have the ability to adjust the light intensity.
