Alabama GED Home Programs

The GED is a group of tests that certify American or Canadian academic skills. The GED is an acronym for General Educational Development, and it is sometimes known as General Equivalency Diploma, or more simply as General Education Diploma. If you are living in Alabama and looking for the GED home programs, there are some tips to keep in mind.
  1. Eligibility

    • To be eligible for the GED, one should not be attending a K-12 school or a private K-12 institution that is registered with the Department of Education of Alabama. The person intending to take the examination should be a legal resident of Alabama, or should be a military member or a military dependent located in Alabama. Also, the person wishing to sign up for an Alabama GED program should not have earned a secondary school diploma from any public or private school that is registered with the Alabama Department of Education.

    Application Procedure

    • To apply, one needs to go to the nearest GED training center and fill in the application. Once the person has applied, he will be offered list of the local testing centers. The price for the entire test is $50, while a retest is priced at $10 per section.

    Examination

    • The GED examination for various states can be different. The GED test in Alabama has five sections, two of which are divided into two equal parts. The various sections are:

      Science
      Language Arts Reading
      Mathematics
      Social Studies
      Language Arts Writing

      The language arts writing and the mathematics sections are two-part sections. In an Alabama GED home program test, candidates have 45 minutes to write an essay during the language arts writing part-two examination. The mathematics examination has multiple-choice questions. Both the parts in the section have a set of questions and answers for which you will have to select and "grid." A calculator is provided for part one of the mathematics section, but part two does not allow a calculator.

    GED Scores

    • To pass the GED, the candidate should make at least 410 points on each section to pass the section. The average score should be 450 points in all the sections combined. The lowest score possible is 200, and the highest score possible is 800. If someone does not pass the examination, she has to undergo a six-week waiting period before taking the retest.
