Responsibilities of the Senior Technical Representative

A senior technical representative needs to be proficient in the application of computer software. The representative is generally considered to be an expert in his technical field. In addition, the person needs to be proficient in the standard practices, regulations and codes which are applicable to his area of expertise. The senior technical representative must be efficient in the use of the latest communication technology. He must be able to take a leadership role, initiate plans of action and possess effective communication skills, both written and oral.

Primary Role

• The primary role of a senior technical representative is to ensure that effective technical solutions are developed which fulfill the client's requirements. The person would take a leadership role as well, which would include supervising others. Ideally, a senior technical representative should have at least a 4-year degree in her technical field and more than 10 years of technical experience in diverse technologies.

Industry Expert

• A senior technical representative should be able to provide clear instructions to subordinates and guide them in developing advanced designs and technical procedures which would lead to good technical solutions. The representative should also be able to act as a technical consultant as and when needed and be able to provide out-of-the-box solutions when required. The senior technical representative will be able to analyze research and organize the various technical materials available for the specified application. Because the senior technical representative is considered an industry expert, he should keep abreast of the latest technological developments.

Coordination

• A senior technical representative will coordinate with the clients to schedule meetings and determine the project needs date. She will need excellent oral and written communication skills so that she can prepare proposals, produce both technical and nontechnical reports and create necessary documentation. The senior technical representative has to constantly seek improvements in work processes.
