Food Stamp Requirements for Wisconsin

The basic requirements for Wisconsin's food stamp program, called FoodShare, are fairly straightforward but additional calculations can be necessary to determine eligibility. Applicants must submit materials to their local county or tribal office, via telephone, or through the Wisconsin state website (https://access.wisconsin.gov/). The state also offers an online tool to help applicants determine their own eligibility.

Applications may be completed online, over the phone, and at local county offices. After completing the paper application, a phone interview will follow (unless you elect to have an in-person interview).

  1. Proof of Identification and Residency

    • Suggested forms of identity include a driver's license, birth certificate, passport, paycheck, employee ID, or hospital record.

    Proof of Earned and Unearned Income

    • When showing proof of income, applicants must provide both earned and unearned income. Earned income can be reflected in check stubs received in the last 30 days, a signed statement from your employer stating gross income and pay dates for the next 30 days, or an Employer Verification of Earnings form. Unearned income (unemployment insurance, disability insurance, social security, retirement, veterans benefits, military allotments) can be proven with an award letter or a copy of the last check.

    Additional Credits

    • The FoodShare program allows for credits to reduce your gross income and maximize your FoodShare disbursement. Providing proof of monthly rent or house payment, monthly utility expenses, childcare expenses and child support may increase your eligibility.
