1
Determine if your home contains lead paint by hiring a certified inspector. If your home was built before 1978, there is a chance that it may. Keep in mind that lead paint becomes more dangerous as it chips away from the wall.
-
2
Visit the HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development) Website, listed as a Resource below. Here, you will find a list of offices across the country that have been put in charge of distributing grants that deal with removing lead paint.
-
3
Contact the office closest to you and set up a meeting. Tell them that you are interested in applying for an LHC (Lead-based Paint Hazard Control) Grant.
-
4
Fill out all forms and send them in as soon as possible. Make sure the forms fall under the category of the Residential Lead-based paint Hazard Reduction Act (Title X).
-
5
Call HUD at (202) 708-1112 with any questions that you come across along the way.
