How to Get Rid of Atomizer Primer

Electronic cigarettes, also known as e-cigarettes, are touted as a healthful alternative to tobacco cigarettes. An e-cigarette replaces tobacco with a liquid nicotine solution that is atomized when it’s heated by an internal battery; instead of inhaling smoke, the e-cigarette user actually inhales the vapor of the atomized nicotine solution. Complaints abound about the taste of the initial draws on a new e-cigarette. A primer placed in the atomizer during the manufacturing process causes the taste problem; the primer is designed to keep the e-cigarette's heating element from burning out in case the device is turned on accidentally initially. Getting rid of the primer gets rid of the problem. You can accomplish that in a few ways.

  Burn off the primer by smoking the e-cigarette. Whether or not you inhale, the task requires dealing with a nasty taste the first 20 or so times you draw on the cigarette, after which the primer will have burned off. This is the simplest solution to getting rid of an atomizer primer.

  Blow out the primer. Take your e-cigarette apart, and wipe down the atomizer with a paper towel. Then hold a clean paper towel beneath the atomizer, and blow through the atomizer’s open, non-threaded side. Primer will drip onto the paper towel. Blow repeatedly until little or no primer comes out.

  Drip about five drops of your favorite flavor of e-liquid on the atomizer’s wick after blowing out the primer. Draw on the e-cigarette a few times without inhaling. When you inhale afterward, the primer's taste will have been replaced by the e-liquid's taste.

  Boil the atomizer after blowing out the primer. Place the atomizer in a small pot or pan of boiling water for 10 minutes. Remove the atomizer from the container, let it cool and blow out water left inside. Let it dry completely, preferably overnight. Add e-liquid, and the e-cigarette is ready to use. You also can use this method to clean your atomizer periodically.
