What does tobacco cure or treat?
There is no evidence that tobacco cures or treats any medical condition. On the contrary, tobacco use is a leading cause of preventable disease, disability, and death in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), smoking cigarettes kills more than 480,000 people each year in the U.S., including more than 41,000 people who die from secondhand smoke exposure. Tobacco use also increases the risk of a variety of health problems, including cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung disease, diabetes, and oral disease.
