Visit a doctor's office and get a general health checkup. Results from a general checkup can alert doctors of any condition that indicates you're unable to drive safely. Doctors can detect mental or physical problems that might lead to a recommendation that you discontinue driving.

    • 2

See a specialist if any problems come up in the general checkup. For example, if the doctor says you have bad vision, you should see an eye specialist for a more in-depth examination. A specialist can say more definitively if the issue seen in the general checkup is serious enough to curtail or end your driving.

Go to your local Department of Public Safety Office and request an assessment, based on government specifications, of whether you're able to drive safely. The DPS will know what to check and if your health problems will hinder safe driving.
