How to Wear a Seatbelt in Ambulances & Wheelchair Vans
Ambulances and wheelchair vans are specially equipped to deal with persons confined to wheelchairs. Those using these vehicles must be properly strapped in with a seatbelt to ensure they're as safe as possible during transit. A standard wheelchair strap is typically used to secure the chair into place during transit, while wheelchair straps are used to secure the occupant.Things You'll Need

1
Place the wheelchair and the occupant in the van or ambulance. Make sure the wheelchair is placed on the brackets that allow it to be strapped into place.
-
2
Tie down the wheelchair. Put on the brakes on the chair and attach the tie-down straps to the bars of the frame and the cleats in the floor. These straps immobilize the chair with the assistance of the brakes and hold it in place in the vehicle.
-
3
Put on the seatbelt for the wheelchair. Wheelchairs come with a lap belt as well as with over-the-shoulder straps that occupants can strap in place to hold themselves into their chairs. Once the chair and occupant are both strapped in, the vehicle is ready to go.
