What is a four-hand seat carry?

A four-hand seat carry is a method of carrying a person between four rescuers. It is an advanced technique that requires some practice and coordination. But, because it is relatively easy to learn and very effective, the four-hand seat carry can be a valuable skill in many environments.

To perform a four-hand seat carry, place two rescuers on either side of the victim, standing about shoulder-width apart and slightly in front of the person's head. Each rescuer should place one hand on the back of the victim's head and bring their other arm around to support the person's hip on their side. With all four hands now in position, the rescuers begin to lift the victim up by standing up and raising their arms. As they lift, they should keep their legs straight and their backs arched.

Once the person has been lifted to about chest height, the rescuers should move in toward each other to form a narrower base of support. This will help to stabilize the victim and make it easier to carry them. As the rescuers walk, they should keep their steps short and their heads up. They should also coordinate their steps so that they are moving in unison.

The four-hand seat carry can be used to move a victim over a short distance or to transport them up or down stairs. It can also be used to carry a person through water or other obstacles. By practicing this technique, you will be able to add a valuable skill to your repertoire of rescue skills.
