Can Alcohol Be Detected Weeks After the Last Drink?

Consuming alcohol can impair your judgment and put control over your faculties. Alcohol only stays in your system for a matter of hours after you drink, though the more you drink the longer it takes. The effects of alcohol can still be felt after the alcohol has left your system.
  1. BAC

    • BAC, or blood alcohol content, is a measure of how many grams of alcohol there are in every 100 milliliters of your blood. So, having a BAC of 0.08 means that there are .08 grams of alcohol in every 100 milliliters of your blood.

    Legal Limits

    • In the United States, a BAC of .08 is considered the legal limit for driving if you are over 21 (of age to legally drink). For those younger than 21, driving with any alcohol in your system is illegal. BAC tests can be performed on the roadside with a device that measures BAC from your breath.

    Metabolizing

    • Your body will eventually metabolize the alcohol present in your system in a matter of hours or days, but not weeks. However, you can still feel the effects of alcohol in your body even after all the alcohol has been metabolized.
