Passenger Weight Restrictions on US Airways
Unlike many airlines, US Airways makes every attempt to provide two seats for overweight passengers who do not fit into one seat and without charging them extra. Only if two seats are not available on any upcoming flights are the passengers charged.-
History
-
After the cause of an early 2003 plane crash was hypothesized to be caused by overweight passengers, airlines began to review their seating policies. By spring of 2009, most airlines had completed adjustments to their guidelines and rules. Originally, these issues had been dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
General Rules
-
There are no set weight restrictions on any major international or national airline. Rather, it is a matter of physical space. If a person cannot buckle their seat-belt and put their armrest down, they are required by most airlines to buy a ticket at full price for the adjoining seat.
US Airways Policy
-
US Airways is unique in that it does not charge overweight customers additional fees for being obese unless there is absolutely no way to find them proper and timely seating on the present or upcoming flight.
