How do you tell if in labor?

There are several signs and symptoms that may indicate that you are in labor. These include:

* Regular uterine contractions: Contractions are the tightening of your uterus. They may start out feeling mild and irregular, but will gradually become stronger, longer, and more frequent as labor progresses.

* Bloody show: This is the passage of a small amount of blood and mucus from the vagina. It's a sign that the cervix is beginning to dilate (open).

* Backache: Labor pain can often be felt in the back, as well as in the abdomen.

* Nausea and vomiting: These are common symptoms during early labor.

* Diarrhea: Some women experience diarrhea during labor.

* Increased energy or restlessness: You may feel a sudden burst of energy or have difficulty sitting still as labor progresses.

* A feeling of pressure in the rectum or vagina: This is a sign that the baby's head is descending into the birth canal.

If you are experiencing any of these signs or symptoms, it's important to contact your doctor or midwife to determine if you are in labor.
