Simulator Safety
A simulator is a device or machine that reproduces an event or action under controlled conditions. People use simulators in different settings, such as a patient simulator at a medical school, a flight simulator for pilots, and weapons simulators at police or military training. In any simulation activity, participants should follow certain protocols to ensure safety.-
Simulation Area
-
The area where the simulation takes place should be separate and well defined from other spaces. Be sure it is free from clutter and debris, as simulations are interactive and participants typically engage in them very actively.
Safety Officer
-
Have a safety officer who is not taking part in the simulation or instructing it. The safety officer's job is to observe the activity and scan the area for any existing or potential hazards.
Personal Protective Equipment
-
Depending on the simulation, participants should wear appropriate protective attire, such as latex gloves, eye shield, and a helmet and/or face mask. The goal of simulation is to recreate the real event; therefore, wearing protective gear is part of the activity.
