Safety Air Flow Check Valves

A safety air flow check valve is a device used with air compressors. It automatically identifies changes in air flow. If it identifies the air flow as being in excess of the valve rating, it shuts off the flow.
  1. Types

    • There is a wide range of safety air flow check valve types available. Each of these types is designed to cut off the air flow at a different pressure limit. Some cut off the air flow between 23 and 29 psi (pounds per square inch), while others cut off the air flow between 2,850 and 3,050 psi.

    OSHA

    • The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has set standards governing these devices. The relevant standard is titled "OSHA 1926.302" and may be viewed on the OSHA website.

    Exclusions

    • These devices should not be used in sandblasting applications. They should also never be used when all of the air available in a room is required, such as for ventilation purposes.
