Manlift Elevator Maintenance

Performing weekly, monthly and annual manlift maintenance and testing, along with needed repairs, ensures the dependability and safety of this equipment used to transport workers from one floor level to another. Only competent, qualified persons may inspect manlifts and unsafe equipment must be taken out of service until properly repaired.
  1. Weekly

    • Maintenance personnel must perform weekly, visual defects checks. Other weekly maintenance procedures include inspection of the lower and upper safety stops, photo-eye or sonic safety, if applicable, on and off switches, and rope control.

    Monthly

    • Perform inspections at intervals of not more than 30 days on all belt components, pulleys, guide rails, guard rails, rollers, steps, handholds, motor and brake. Maintenance personnel must remove any obstructions at floor landings and test illumination levels, warning signs and lights at all landings to ensure proper working condition. Check lubrication and oil levels during monthly maintenance and note any vibration or misalignment, as well as the cleanliness of the guide rail.

    Annual

    • Annual maintenance checks and inspections include load tests of the up capacity, down capacity brake, loaded step deflection and handhold strength. Additional maintenance inspections include testing safety stops, start and stop control ropes, movable cone guards and performing speed tests.
