Uses for Mylar or Acetate Gloves

Gloves protect your hands from exposure to chemicals, extreme temperature, sharp edges and abrasion. Mylar gloves are gloves with a mylar lining that insulate your hands against cold. Acetate gloves protect against certain chemicals.
  1. Mylar Gloves

    • Mylar is a trademarked name for a thin, strong polyester plastic film made by Dupont Tejjin Films. Mylar products line gloves to keep your hands warm by reflecting heat. Cyclists, motorcycle riders and other outdoor enthusiasts may use mylar gloves in cool weather to keep their hands warm.

    Acetate Gloves

    • Acetate is a cellulose polymer derived from wood pulp. Polyvinyl acetate, or PVA, gloves protect against prolonged exposure to chemicals, including acetonenitrile, carbon disulfide, chloroform, dichloromethane, toluene and xylene.

    Precautions

    • Refer to Material Safety Data Sheets when handling any chemical for precautions and recommended gloves and other protections. Discontinue use of gloves if you note or develop an allergic reaction to the glove materials. Always consult a health care professional if symptoms do not go away.
