Roof Sprinkler System Fire Prevention

A roof fire prevention sprinkler system is an essential part of fire safety for buildings surrounded by forests . Built-in rooftop sprinklers help to prevent uncontrollable forest fires from engulfing nearby structures.

Components

• Roof sprinkler systems consist of a rotating sprinkler head, a storage rack and a conduit which connects the system and the sprinkler to a source of water. Generally designed to be built in the structure's initial construction, these systems spray water onto the structure in an attempt to prevent flames from consuming the building.

Design

• These systems have a rectangular pipe frame that bends at the middle to straddle the roof of a building. The sprinkler heads connect to a conduit that bisects the frame. Generally a garden hose connects to the pipe frame to deliver water to the system.

Safety Concepts

• These sprinkler systems operate under the idea that releasing moisture into the air increases humidity. The change in air pressure, which is less supportive of the fire, will prevent the fire from spreading toward the building. These systems work best with prior notice of the approaching forest fire, needing to run for at least two hours before danger arrives.
