Steel Strapping Safety
Steel strapping is a specialized kind of strapping used to hold down very heavy objects such as cars during their transportation. There are a number of issues surrounding steel strapping safety.-
Strap Materials
-
While heavy duty straps can be made of plastic, iron or metal, for very heavy loads it is recommended that steel straps be used. This is primarily because plastic is prone to breaking and iron is prone to rusting. Steel, on the other hand, is much more reliable than either and thus much safer.
Load Limits
-
Steel straps may be made of galvanized steel, stainless steel or paramount steel. Each of these types of steel can hold down loads up to a few tons. Always ensure that steel straps meet all local government and industry standards.
Snapping Straps
-
Even steel straps can snap now and then. This is because there is an immense amount of energy stored in the straps as they do their job of holding the heavy object in place, always take precautions, such as wearing protective eye wear, when working around these straps. When releasing the straps at the end of the journey, always be aware that the straps can fly anywhere due to the pressure built up inside them.
