Locksmith Fire Codes Certification

As locksmiths work on critical sites of exit and entry, they must be keenly aware of fire-safety standards and law. As they progress toward certification, knowledge of this law becomes vitally necessary for their success.

Identification

• Fire topics do not constitute an independent form of certification for locksmiths in most cases. Instead, fire-related knowledge is part of the general criteria found in state certification procedures. Most of the time, this subject matter is addressed in the certification exam at the end of your coursework and apprenticeship.

Exam

• To prepare for the exam, be sure you know all the applicable state and federal fire codes. You may ask questions of your local fire marshal if there is any crossover in state, federal and/or municipal regulations.

Significance

• If fire-related emergencies occur as a result or partial result of a locksmith's work, they may be held legally liable. Use all available resources to become acquainted with the law. Make the most of your apprenticeship where you study with an experienced master. They may prove instrumental in developing your awareness of fire issues and sending you on your way to certification and licensing.
