How to Replace a Respirator Cartridge

Respirators are used in the workplace to keep employees safe from exposure to harmful particulates, fumes or vapors. In reusable respirators, air flows through cartridges containing filters that must be changed approximately every eight hours. There are many brands of respirators, but most cartridges are changed out in the same manner.

  Hold the respirator mask so it faces toward you.

  Grasp one of the cartridges firmly.

• 3

  Twist the cartridge clockwise and pull it away from the mask.

• 4

  Remove the other cartridge in the same manner.

• 5

  Replace the cartridges with new ones by lining them up with the holes in the respirator and twisting them counterclockwise.
