Instructions

    • 1

Read the the manufacturer's guide and fully familiarize yourself with the machine before using it. If possible, have someone with prior knowledge of the machine demonstrate how to properly use it.

    • 2

Work only in a well lit area when dealing with a shaper. Proper lighting will help minimize the possibility of awkward hand movements that could result in injury.

    • 3

Clean your work area thoroughly and make sure it is clear from clutter and any other obstacles before beginning.

    • 4

Wear safety glasses at all times and avoid wearing loose fitting clothes. If you have long hair, pull it back into a pony tail.

    • 5

Make sure that the fence is properly attached to the shaper and locked into place. Also make sure that the blade is safely secured. Larger blades usually require the fence to be open a little more than it would be for smaller blades.

    • 6

Inspect the wood workpiece and make sure there are no anomalies such as knots before beginning. Knots can be dangerous because you can lose control when you hit one with the blade.

    • 7

Keep your hands and all other body parts away from the blade while cutting. Stay focused throughout the entire process and avoid making any awkward movements with your hands.
