ANSI Standards for Industrial Equipment
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) oversees the creation and regulation of standards and requirements tested for product quality control. The Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) utilize these standards for industrial equipment.-
Function

ANSI categorizes standards in either application or construction. Application standards are for safeguarding industrial machinery, such as power presses and industrial robot systems. Construction standards include the creation of the industrial machine, the care and usage requirements as well as safety principles for handling.
Types

Application and construction standards are considered for virtually every type of industrial machinery available. This includes automation, lathes, furnaces, machine bending and cutting tools. Ergonomic design and safety standards are included to protect workers and plan the workplace for better productivity.
Significance

The application and construction standards include detailed requirements that pertain to a particular industry and piece of equipment. Noise control, signals, labels, and connector types are only few items directed by ANSI and enforced by OSHA. Furthermore, communication data, industrial software and electric equipment for machines have separate standards pertaining to industrial application use.
