Safety Rules for Electrical Engineering
Electrical engineering can be very dangerous. Electricity alone is a powerful element, and when working with it, one should always use caution. Safety should always be the main concern of anybody involved in any type of electrical engineering. There are a few general safety tips to keep in mind when dealing with electrical engineering.-
Apparel, Food and Drink
-
Clothing is an important factor to look at in terms of electrical safety. When working in electrical engineering it is essential that shoes are worn and cover the entire foot. Long hair should be tied back and all metal bracelets and jewelry removed. Clothing should fit tightly. Protective eye wear and other safety equipment should always be worn at appropriate times. Eating, drinking and smoking should never take place when working.
Emergency Preparation
-
A fire extinguisher, first aid kit, emergency shut-off station, emergency exits, fire alarm system and an emergency telephone should be accessible during the electrical engineering. Everyone involved should be familiar with how all of these are used.
Cords
-
Extension cords should be used only when necessary and only temporarily. Check all cords and outlets before using them. If a cord is overheated, torn or exposed in any way, discard it. Only handle cords with dry hands.
Understanding Procedures
-
Know procedures for storing, handling and disposing of all high-energy storage devices, such as cells and batteries. Any faulty items or equipment should be reported immediately and put out of use. Know what to do in an emergency.
Use Common Sense
-
To put it quite simply, think before you act. If you are unsure of something, avoid it. Never take any steps without making sure that you and everyone around you know what is going on. Also know that the higher the voltage you are dealing with, the higher the risk. Always handle everything with care.
