Checklist for Scaffolding Towers
Scaffolding towers are useful tools for working on the exterior of tall structures or constructing new buildings, but there are several dangers associated with constructing and working on these temporary structures. While there isn't an official "checklist" of steps to take before working on scaffolding towers, there are several basic safety precautions you should take before attempting to work on a scaffold of any size.-
Safe Area
-
First, you should ensure that the area you are going to be building the scaffolding tower on is level, dry, free of debris and in a safe location. Making sure the area you're going to be working in meets these conditions before assembling the scaffolding tower will reduce the chance of the structure falling over, shifting or getting damaged. If you must build your tower on soft ground, place footpads under scaffolding feet to give it a solid base.
Tie-In Locations
-
Choosing a scaffolding tower of appropriate size is also important, as this will allow you to determine appropriate tie-in locations to secure your structure to the building. Attaching your scaffolding tower in a stable, secure way with proper tie-ins is the only way to ensure your structure will not collapse while your team is working on it.
Team & Equipment
-
Compiling a competent team of workers, preferably a group who have experience working on a scaffolding tower, and the proper equipment before you begin your project is another important safety precaution to fulfill. Double-check your tools and equipment to make sure they are in proper working order, and give the materials of the scaffolding tower a once-over to look for damage, rust or broken pieces.
